Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is a global biopharmaceutical company whose mission is to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to help better the lives of patients battling serious diseases.
In 2013, the New York City-based biopharmaceutical company behind the popular antidepressant drug, Abilify, planned a $250 million expansion of its large-scale biologics manufacturing facility in Devens, Massachusetts. Located 45 miles west of Boston, the 89-acre site accommodates a large-scale bulk biologics facility.
The site includes four main buildings: a BioPharma manufacturing facility, a central utility building, an administrative/quality control building and a warehouse/storage structure. With the hopes of adding 350 jobs to its Devens facility, BMS was in need of a top-notch project management and installation solution to fit the needs of its new 89-acre site. Contexture worked with the general contractor, Lend Lease, to install toilet partitions, wall protection, lockers, fire extinguishers and cabinets, warehouse racking, motorized file storage systems, custom glass marker boards, appliances, wire mesh partitions, shades and a FabriTRAK® System, a unique product that effectively combines acoustic performance and artistic imagery.
The state of Massachusetts is the country’s center for medical education and research, so it came as no surprise that news of the expansion received positive feedback. “This is a great example of why life sciences have become top job creators in the state,” said Susan Windham-Bannister, president, and CEO of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. She has also said, “The real draw for large companies to Massachusetts is our pipeline of early-stage companies. They want a front-row seat, and we want to invest in making this a good ecosystem for them to be part of.”
By partnering with Contxture and the latest project management and installation solutions in Divisions 09, 10, 11, 12, and 16, BMS is now a space to discover innovative solutions that enhance various environmental, health and safety operational practices.
